Some of my fees were paid through the Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund (TTAF), but now I need Fees Free to pay the rest. What do I need to do?

The TTAF ends on 31 December 2022. If you are enrolled in a course or programme that is continuing beyond this date, you will need to organise payment for those fees.

Learners wishing to access Fees Free for these courses or programmes will need to meet the eligibility criteria for 2023 – this includes learners enrolled in a course that starts in 2022 and finishes in 2023. Please confirm your eligibility status by entering your National Student Number (NSN) on the Fees Free homepage and selecting 2023 as your study year.

  • If your status is ‘Yes’, you do not need to do anything. Your tertiary education organisation will already know you’re eligible, your fees will be paid directly to your tertiary education organisation by the Tertiary Education Commission.
  • If your status is ‘Maybe’, you need to confirm whether you meet the eligibility criteria and submit a statutory declaration to us if you do.
  • If you started using Fees Free before using the TTAF, you may have remaining entitlement. We’ll let your provider know how much Fees Free will cover for your fees (if any), and they’ll invoice you for any extra fees that exceed that amount, if needed.
  • If you do not meet the eligibility criteria for 2023, you will not be able to access Fees Free. You may wish to apply to for a student loan to cover your fees. For more information about Student Loans visit the StudyLink website.
