Does Fees Free affect New Zealand scholarships?

Fees Free covers your first year of tertiary study, or first two years of training. If you’re eligible for Fees Free and are undertaking eligible study, you’ll automatically start to use your Fees Free entitlement. You cannot save your Fees Free entitlement for future use and have your fees covered by a scholarship instead.

If you’re awarded a scholarship for your first year of tuition and compulsory course costs, we recommend asking the awarding body if the award can be used for living or course-related costs other than compulsory fees – or for your second year of study. This means you can benefit from both the scholarship and Fees Free.
