National Student Number (NSN)
A National Student Number (NSN) is a unique number given to every student. The NSN makes it easier for secondary schools and government agencies (including NZQA and TEC) to manage and share information about students in a way that protects their privacy.
Without an NSN we cannot determine your eligibility for Fees Free. If you do not know your NSN, please contact the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) on 0800 697 296.
If you do not have an NSN, you will need to enrol with a tertiary organisation and come back to the Fees Free website to determine your eligibility.
Fees Free will cover up to $12,000 worth of study or training. At the end of each calendar year, we will determine what Fees Free entitlement you have used and if you have any entitlement remaining to carry over into future years.
For further information, please speak to your tertiary organisation.
Fees Free tertiary organisations
You can use your fees-free entitlement with most tertiary education organisations in New Zealand, such as:
- Private Training Establishments
- Industry Training Organisations
- Institutes of Technology
Before you enrol, check with the tertiary organisation that you can use your fees-free entitlement with the course.
